Spark Arrestors – Filtration System Protection and Fire Prevention
DEPURO spark arrestors are designed to capture sparks, hot particles, and other contaminants from the airflow or flue gases before they enter the filtration unit.
This significantly reduces the risk of fire, protects the filter media, and extends the lifespan of the entire extraction system.
Spin Separators
Spin separators are a special type of cyclone scrubber optimized for spark capture. The airflow enters tangentially into the cylindrical body of the separator, where a swirling motion separates sparks and hot particles from the air stream. These particles are centrifuged to the chamber wall, lose their energy, and fall into the collection container, while the flue gases cleaned of burning particles are directed to the filtration unit.
Advantages of spin separators:
- Fast response – captures sparks without slowing down the production process.
- Maintenance-free design – no moving parts.
- Low pressure drop – minimal impact on the extraction system’s performance.
- Long service life – durable construction for industrial enviroment
Spin separators are suitable for the metallurgical industry, incineration plants, woodworking operations, metal production, and other applications where there is an increased risk of spark generation.
Other Types of Mechanical Spark Arrestors
Mechanical dry separators use gravitational, inertial, and centrifugal forces to separate larger particles and sparks. The airflow is slowed down, redirected, or set into a swirling motion, causing heavier particles to lose energy and drop out of the stream.
Main types:
- Inertial separators – change the direction of airflow; heavier particles collide with obstacles and fall out.
- Baffle (lamella) separators – capture droplets and larger particles, often used in combination with wet scrubbers.
- Cyclone separators – spin the air stream; particles are driven to the walls by centrifugal force and fall into a collection contain
These separators are ideal as a first stage of filtration for operations with high dust levels and a risk of hot particle generation.
